In reply to the discussion: Can you tell me your experience with cataract surgery? [View all]Susan Calvin
(2,373 posts)36. Thanks. It's not the operation itself I'm worried about.
It's his statement about having to wear glasses for driving if I got the lens that Medicare pays for rather than a toroid lens, and his statement that it had a 90% success rate, leaving me worried about the 10% non-success rate. I should have asked him, among other things, what he meant by non success exactly.

Well, the astigmatism is not bad enough to keep me from driving without glasses.

My Dad got it done when he was 85. Sailed through it and was very happy with the results.

Nowadays, the risks are quite low. If doc said 10%, I bet most of that is post op irritation,

Odds are you won't have any problems. Not sure but yes, issues can be dealt with.

I had cataract surgery on both eyes in 2017. All went well and continues to go well. Not one issue.

The eye doctor / surgeon makes a difference. Be willing to change to get the best.

I've been putting it off, but a friend who had it in December says I'm worrying needlessly.
