(31,849 posts)Yes ... Arizona can be a very lonely place.
Being from back East (Ohio), one of the first things I notice about Tucson is the lack of community. The housing is built to point entertainment and interaction to backyards, rather than the front of houses. (How many houses have you seen here that have front porches?)
While I am fairly extroverted and have no problem interacting with anyone ... I've noticed a difference. When I first moved in, my neighbor (John) and Mike and Jill across the street, and Eddie and Helga next to them, spoke to me every time we saw each other ... The joke was "Hi, 1SBM! Hi, 1SBM's wife" (she is more introverted); but in recent years, John died, Mike lost his job, then his house, Eddie moved when he and Helga divorced ... now, I can only call the name of my immediate neighbor, even though I have attempt to introduce myself. They just don't seem to want to associate ... a wave, on the way into the house is enough.
