Bears release Ray McDonald after new domestic violence arrest [View all]

NFL.com: The Chicago Bears have released defensive tackle Ray McDonald in the wake of his latest involvement in a domestic violence incident...

According to the police report, officers were dispatched at 3:48 a.m. to a disturbance at McDonald's Santa Clara residence where they learned McDonald "physically assaulted the victim while she was holding a baby." McDonald left the residence before police arrived. He was later located and arrested in San Jose at 7 a.m.

The Bears announced in a brief statement..."We believe in second chances, but when we signed Ray we were very clear what our expectations were if he was to remain a Bear," general manager Ryan Pace said. "He was not able to meet the standard and the decision was made to release him."

Sports Illustrated: McDonald signed with the Bears in March on a one-year contract after being cut by the San Francisco 49ers in December...after authorities announced McDonald was being investigated for possible sexual assault charges. No charges were brought against McDonald in that case, and he is reportedly suing the woman who accused him of sexual assault. The alleged victim is suing McDonald and 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks for false imprisonment, assault and battery, and infliction of emotional distress.

McDonald had also been arrested last Aug. 31 on suspicion of felony domestic violence. Police said that McDonald was celebrating his birthday at his home with friends and teammates. When police arrived at the home, they said the alleged victim, McDonald’s fiancée, had "visible injuries." McDonald was not charged after the district attorney's office said it did not have sufficient evidence to proceed with the case...

TMZ: McDonald and his ex-fiancee had a baby in March...(the) same woman who accused him of domestic violence last summer...(S)he refused to cooperate with his prosecution.

Odds are it's the same woman, the ex-fiancee -- she was 10 weeks pregnant when the August incident occurred. Will she press charges this time, or wait until he kills her?

P.S: NFL.com, Sports Illustrated, TMZ -- how's that for a slippery slope?
