More than 500,000 winter tires recalled due to poor traction in snow [View all]

Prinx Chengshan Tire North America (PCTNA) has issued a recall for more than 540,000 of its snow tires, which do not comply with North American standards due to lack of proper traction on snow.

The PCTNA recall affects more than 100 sizes of both Fortune Tormenta and Prinx HiCountry tires with three-peak mountain snowflake symbols on the sidewalls.

The tires were produced between Aug. 24, 2020, and Dec. 7, 2024, according to the document. These replacement tires were marketed as snow tires and passed the European standard, which permits them to be designated as snow tires in Europe.

However, the North American and European standards do not correlate with each other. Several sample sizes were tested using the North American standard, which failed.
