Maybe being raised as an agnostic with deep prejudice against Christians has helped me. When I finally started attending a church, partly through loneliness after moving to a small town and commuting back to a teaching job in Austin, mentally I was ready to fend off anyone who tried to convert me.

So when I let my defenses down and began exploring what Christianity was all about, I had a lot to learn from scratch. It may be since I came at it fresh, it went deeper.
