Youtube is full of videos where people doing traditional martial arts get beaten up by kickboxers and MMA-fighters. Basically, all the martial arts involving chi and spiritual power and stuff like that are humbug. Teachers and students form an echo-chamber of make-believe that they really have these mystic powers and that you are supposed to fall down when someone shoots an hadouken at you.

On the other hand, there really are a few no-nonsense kung fu schools where you learn to kick ass. But the problem is finding one and (without knowing whether what you're seeing is real or fake) telling it apart from the bullshitters.
