(3,702 posts)My frustration is this belief in all or nothing...we have way too much work to do.
I am a Bernie supporter. I would love for Bernie to president. I am disgusted at how money has corrupted our election process.
But I also live in reality. I remember what happened after Obama was elected for his first term. Do you remember...we had a Democratic majority and we were high on hope and change. And to his credit, Obama got a lot done..just not as much as many of us hoped for. And then fucking 2010 and Republican majority and stonewalling and no matter what Obama has done, he can't do it all because of those pesky 3 branches of government and balance of powers blah blah.
So let's play out the best case scenario..Bernie wins the nomination and the election. Yay. But he doesn't have any magic powers. He can still only do so much....Congress is still going to be bought and paid for and that is 535 to 1. And he can only do things at the federal level...look at the fucking mess the red states are in. Just because he becomes president doesn't mean all those nasty racist bigoted Trump supporters disappear ... the ugly has been awoken and they are going to be heard locally. The Koch brothers and Wall Street aren't going to say "well that's it...we had a good run, but President Sanders says no more so we have to go home". The Republicans might be a little more inclined to work with Bernie because he is a white male...but they have painted themselves so far into wacko land who knows.
If he doesn't win, does that mean it's over, we all just give up and amble along like mindless sheep? No. I will vote for the Democratic nominee because Hillary Clinton will still be leaps and bounds better than Trump,Cruz or Kasich. But I will also continue to push left and keep up the momentum created by Bernie. For crying out loud that is the very least I can do. Pretty sure Mr. Sanders would not want me to pack up my toys and go home.
I am sorry you feel like leaving is the only option you have left, but that is your choice. Good luck to you
