In reply to the discussion: Tonight is the night I leave the Democratic Party and Democratic Underground [View all]Thirties Child
(543 posts)I sympathize with you, had so hoped to elect another FDR, afraid it won't happen in my lifetime. Sigh. I've been around a long time, cast my first vote in 1956 (for Ike), have watched the Republicans become the John Birchers and the Democrats become the 1960s Republicans. The position once held by the Democrats is empty, has been since 1992. During the horrendous Bush years I thought the Republicans are awful, but the Democrats aren't much better. They just go along.
I don't, don't, don't want to vote for Hillary, and it probably won't make a difference in red Georgia, but Trump is such a horror I can't sit this one out. Mr. Thirties, who hates politics, will hold his nose and vote for her. Our multi-multi-multi millionaire SIL has probably never voted for a Dem in his life, will vote for her.
Feel so sad, and so discouraged about where our country is headed. Empires never last. Good-bye Rome. Good-bye British Empire. Good-bye USA.
This is disjointed, which is how I feel. Good luck, Fearless, and God-speed.
