she's trying to win the votes of moderates, centrists and independents, and draw a contrast with the scorched-earth, extremist polarizers like Trump, Cruz, etc.

Sanders is refusing to even acknowledge that she won, let alone help her win.

When someone refuses to get off the sideline, they wind up being marginalized.
