In reply to the discussion: Sanders says hes on verge of pulling off major political upset [View all]thesquanderer
(12,715 posts)I think it is virtually impossible for the Republicans to do to Sanders in a matter of months as much damage as they have done to Clinton in 20+ years. The dislike many non-Dems have for HRC is visceral, deep-seated and long-lasting in a way that goes beyond what I think could be created in a single brief campaign.
Clinton has not entirely shown she can "shrug it off," either... if none of it sticks, she wouldn't have a 55% unfavorable rating. And now there will be a whole new bunch of attacks that she hasn't had to campaign against before as well... They will tie her as sec'y of state to the rise of Isis under the Obama administration's watch. And the email server. Foreign contributions to the Clinton foundation.
Neither of them are going to have an easy time of it. Clinton may have more experience in dealing with it, but Sanders gives them less ammunition and isn't starting from a point of 55% unfavorables.
