Jeremy Allan White is used throughout but it is autobiographical and that is part of the problem. He is too close to the material to make decent story out of it. It all makes sense to him because it happened to him. He knows what was going on inside his head during that period but that doesn't come across to the audience.

True stories, especially personal ones, are a trap story-telling wise. "Fabelmans" suffered from the same dynamic.

Reminds me of what someone said recently, "Fiction is harder to write than non-fiction because fiction has to make sense."
