9. Yup, we had a B&W TV, too. It was a Zenith. I believe it's still downstairs in the basement.

And I don't remember every day of elementary school, but the day that the president was shot is burned in my memory. My reading group was allowed to go to the school library alone with the stipulation that we stayed in line and didn't talk in the halls.

Turns out that Coach, the gym teacher, had a free period so he turned on the radio in his office and heard the announcement that the president had ben shot! So he ran to the nearest classroom and told the 6th grade teacher who immediately ran to the library and told the librarian - so that's when we kids heard.

And of course we immediately ran back to the classroom - the last one on the hall - to tell our teacher. And he immediately ran out to find out more and that's when all hell broke loose. They sent us kids home, and I can remember waiting in the gym till the buses arrived to bring us home, everyone was scared.

My mother already knew, her neighbor came and told her as soon as she heard, she was crying because she loved President Kennedy. And of course the TV remained on and that's when I saw Lee Harvey Oswald shot live on TV. I still remember that whole day, surreal as it was.
