Caterers are preparing as many as 1,200 meals for Friday's fund-raising lunch with President Bush in Jackson. For every roasted pork tenderloin and peach chutney lunch sold, $1,000 will go to Republican gubernatorial candidate Haley Barbour, who could garner $1.2 million for his campaign at the event.
For security reasons, GOP officials aren't divulging details about the event. But enough contributors are lining up that it has been moved from the Crowne Plaza Hotel to the Mississippi Coliseum.
"You kind of feel like you're at the center of everything when you're in a room with the president of the United States," said Republican Joe Nosef, who plans to attend the luncheon.
Jeff Good, co-owner of BRAVO! and Broad Street Baking Co. catering service, said this is "arguably the most important meal we've ever done, so we're going to put our best foot forward."
