Bangkok - A baby boy thrown into a rubbish bin by his mother, and nicknamed Apec in honour of the summit of Asia-Pacific leaders, has been declared brain dead.
"The chance of him breathing again is almost none," Dr Surapee Ruangsuwan said on Monday, adding that the infant would be attached to a respirator until he died a natural death.
A police officer found the newborn boy, wrapped in two plastic bags, on Friday near a conference hall where the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation forum was meeting.
The boy's mother has been charged with attempted murder.
Nongnuch McKaweney, 23, has denied trying to kill her son.
Captain Suwan Chankasem quoted her as saying she left the baby near the venue hoping he would be found by a rich person.
