BRUSSELS (AFP) - The European Commission said that tests for bird flu in Romania have so far proved negative, adding that it therefore has no plans to ban imports from the country.
But the commission, the European Union's executive arm, said Wednesday it remains on alert, adding that EU experts who travelled to Romania this week were due to present their findings in Brussels later in the day.
"All the virological tests carried out to date in Romania continue to prove negative for the presence of avian influenza," spokeswowan Nina Papadoulaki told AFP.
"Every day that passes reinforces our confidence that there is not an outbreak there of avian flu."
