BAGHDAD (AFP) - A year after the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime, US forces suffered new casualties as they battled insurgents across Iraq while the kidnapping of foreigners dealt a new jolt to the US-led coalition.
On top of the reported abduction of three Japanese, a Canadian, an Arab Israeli and a Briton, two US soldiers are missing following an attack by Iraqi insurgents on their convoy around Baghdad International Airport, a coalition military spokesman told AFP.
The spokesman, Specialist Justin McCue, said it was unknown if the soldiers had been abducted by insurgents.
McCue said he had no information on missing American civilians, though CNN television reported that several American civilians are also unaccounted for.
