Someday soon, you'll be checking your new Clear Skies app as a routine part of your preparations to go out for the evening. First, you'll look at your smart gizmo to read your latest email to make sure there hasn't been any change in plans. A quick glance at Facebook lets you see who’ll be joining your group of friends at the bar. Weather and traffic apps inform you of what to wear and what route to take. Twitter will tell you about any major news developments you should be retweeting to your tweeps to prime the conversational pump over drinks.

And your new Clear Skies app will let you know if any unmanned drones are hovering 12 miles up in the stratosphere with your head in their sights.

Sound like science fiction? Isn't drone surveillance and remote kills a problem just for people in the undeveloped regions of the world where life is cheap, collateral damage a daily hazard, and violations of national sovereignty the norm rather than the exception?

1. The are already trying.

The excuse is Boarder Patrol. However the "Border" is 100 miles wide around the perimeter of this country, with loopholes applied where needed to make the boarder zone as wide as necessary as needed. Somebody is trying very hard to make this country a police state.

3. You reap what you sow.

I've said for years that there will be a time when the land mass now known as the U.S. will be the target of air strikes and other violent acts from foreign countries in retaliation for what we've been doing to them for decades. It may not be in my lifetime, but it will happen. 9-11 was a whiff of what I'm talking about.

4. The see and avoid issue is limiting drones in the US

5. Not just national gov'ts, either, you can be sure.

Probably some drug cartel will get them before most countries.

7. Over 40 countries already have them.

I've counted over 400 models of drones from a Wikipedia listing of countries that have them. Considering that a country would have at least two of each model, in case one is destroyed, that makes for a LOT of UAV's internationally owned. Right now, the US and Israel have the most each, but many countries have four to six different kinds of drones.
