Fukushima. Not good, not good at all...

Asahi: Gov’t funded researchers “have sounded the alarm” — Calling for “immediate” monitoring — 175 Billion becquerels flow PER DAY in just one river in one city 60 km from meltdowns

Cesium levels hit tens of billions of becquerels at river mouth, AJW by The Asahi Shimbun, November 25, 2011 (Emphasis Added):

Researchers have sounded the alarm over river water containing cesium levels at tens of billions of becquerels a day flowing into the sea near Fukushima Prefecture
They called for immediate and continued monitoring of the situation.
The daily radiation levels are equivalent to the total of amount of cesium in low-level contaminated water released into the sea in April by TEPCO.

1. Truly frightening.
Greg Palast has a lot to say about the meltdown occurring at Fukushima in his newest book, Vulture's Picnic.

3. I'm sure someone will be along in a minute to explain how this is really just one dental x-ray
a decade and how green nukular energy is.

We need to shut down and disassemble and permanently prohibit any more nuclear construction ever, and we need to do it todauy.

7. Absolutely!
Nuclear power is a huge environmental threat that must be stopped.

4. What's happening is truly criminal.
It's a global, ecological, nuclear crime that the Japanese government and TEPCO has down-played from the beginning.
Not only has there been melt-downs/melt-throughs...no one even knows for sure where the cores are at.
There is no way presently to access inside what remains of the buildings because of the "off the chart" radiation readings. There is NO book or manual written on how to proceed.
TEPCO is making it up as they go.
It's the stuff of nightmares and there is no "fix" available at the present time.

more energy efficient, there would probably have been half a dozen reactors between LA and SF.

6. Here is a link to the original Asahi News article
http://www.asahi.com/national/update/1124/TKY201111240671.html

The figure cited in the article was actually 50 billion becquerels/day, not 175 billion. The river in question is the Abukuma River, which flows through Koriyama and Fukushima cities in Fukushima Prefecture and empties into the Pacific Ocean at Iwanuma, Miyagi Prefecture. The research and measurements were conducted between April and June by a team led by researchers from Kyoto University, Tsukuba University, and the Japan Meteorological Agency.
