O'Franken: David Kay basically says we didn't find WMD's but... |
|
... it's still Clinton's fault. :eyes:
Is anyone listening to this?

I think Kay is trying to keep damaging information ABOUT HIMSELF from being leaked if he damages the WH.

Al is holding his feet to the fire though. Just when I was thinking Franken was going soft (with the earlier guest or caller) he is taking it to them now. Go Al!!!!!! Hooray for AIr America. Scott

I had to step out to run an errand for a few minutes so I missed this exchange. Gosh, I wish we could get AA on a regular radio station.

No computer audio and no AAR - how, please explain to me, is it supposed to be Clinton's fault there were no wmds in Iraq?

As a previous poster said earlier, he's making excuses. Same old shit, different day with these assholes.

that Bush lied in his SOTU Speech, Kay said that "Clinton once was given the wrong speech on his teleprompter during one of his SOTU speeches, so mistakes happen...." WTF??????????

He also said that the reason we didn't find any WMD was most likely due to the fact that they were destroyed in the '98 bombing of Iraq that Clinton ordered.
All in all, I'm actually pretty impressed by Kay. I expected him to be way more partisan than he's come across in this interview.
(edit - I'm seriously rethinking the non-partisan thing after listening to Kay's discussion of Einstein, etc. over the past few minutes.)

15. He also is saying that Saddam had destroyed the fabric of Iraqi |
|
society, as if sanctions and bombings throughout the '90s never happened.
Saddam certainly is not guilt-free, but I hate when these neocons and their media stooges conveniently forget that actions since Gulf War I contributed to the destruction of Iraq'a infrastructure.

19. Yes, we rushed into war to find WMDs (not found) |
|
But the US didn't have enough VMPs (Vests of Military Protection - armored flack jackets). I heard that the soldiers shipping off to Iraq are buying their own, not believing the "promise" by BushCo that they'll get them when they arrive.

21. Franken is up to any challenge |
|
I think he handled this Kay interview so very well. It's one thing to interview people you respect and with whom you agree. But interviewing someone who has represented "the other side" and not only that is also a CIA guy who can slip and slide in an interview - that's a challenge. Al did a fantastic job. He had facts and he spoke from the heart.
I think he gave Kay a run for money. Kay had to retreat a lot. Enough examples have been pointed out about that in this thread. The Einstein example for one. I came aaway confident that Al has found a long term venue for himself. I've got tremendous confidence in Air America.

23. Too bad Al isn't calling Kay on the fact that he was all for the invasion |
|
I remember Dr. Kay being all over my tv screen in the run up to the invasion; he's no unbiased "observer." There was a REASON the administration picked Kay; he was already a true believer.

24. Well, the whole interview was aimed |
|
at tearing apart the reasons for being on the side of going to war. So, essentially, Franken was taking Kay apart. It just didn't have that vitriolic tone we associate with right wing talk hosts. At least, that's what I was hearing. :)

Franken did get Kay to admit that Bush cherry-picked the intelligence in stating his case for war... I am almost positive I heard that in my rushing out at lunchtime on an errand.
