Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 02:47 PM by Redleg
If not, perhaps you should consider moving over to Conservative Underground. Okay- that was harsh.
Is "charisma" the most important attribute we should demand in our leaders?

He was very awesome: those who say he is a drone-r who need to watch this speech in replay... he may have been somewhat monotonous but he was spot on, message-wise!
Excellent oration! And perfect follow up to Cheney's venom spew that brought this on!

Hands down, Kerry looks more presidential, sounds more presidential, and makes people more comfortable.

16. "Kicking Butt"? More like cautiously nudging butt |
|
Personally, I was completely underwhelmed by the speech. Very light on substance. His entirely game plan in Iraq seems to consist of getting other countries to contribute more soldiers and money and ceding reconstruction authority to the UN. Fine. But what's the likelihood of that actually happening? After all, if countries like France and Germany can't see that its in their self-interest to get involved in Iraq now, why should we believe they'll behave any differently when Kerry is in office?

21. We could offer these countries a say in the reconstruction |
|
and cede control of the resources we are stealing through the reconstruction fund. Also we could offer a president who won't lie to them.

30. The French foreign minister explained it a few days ago.... |
|
I posted the article in the WMW....in which she says that France is willing to train Iraqi police outside of Iraq, but not now because Bush still isn't meeting their criteria, which includes real inclusion in what's the hell is going to happen there.
The EU has formed it's block. They are ready to act if we cut and run. If we get a new President who is willing to really include them, then it's a different story, they'll work with us. If we don't, then the EU will continue to operate on it's own. Them vs us.

27. Dolstein, you're smarter than that |
|
Certainly you don't think that the person who is leading an effort is irrelevant? You're smart enough to know that some people won't take on a worthwhile mission if the person leading it is a boob, but they will if the leader is someone they respect.
IOW, countries like France and Germany may not see that it's in their self-interest to get involved *IF* Bush* is in charge, but they might come to a different conclusion if they see someone who knows what he's doing is in charge.

29. Perhaps because Kerry won't be managing the commercial contracts? |
|
Bush/Cheney has turned Iraq into their own private patronage country. Financial pay-offs won't be a Kerry priority. I suspect that he'll encourage all countries to participate in the rebuilding efforts, with a UN sponsered Iraqi authority to oversee it.
Sadly, the American tax-payers will be footing the bill of this fiasco for decades to come thanks to Dimwit and his white collar criminal sidekick, Dick Cheney.

I see zero chance of the German military getting involved in Iraq. Money yes, military resources yes, education and infrastructural help yes, but no troops.
I got a report from the German ambassador to Iraq last week - basically he said: It's a mess, many Iraqis want us in. When anything goes wrong, in 95% of all cases Bechtel is at fault. He really has a problem with Bechtel, especially he disliked them using "food-for-oil" funds to repaint Iraqi schools - for a price indicating a total reconstruction.

I had to go out right after the speech, and I thought about Kerry as I was driving. He was so forceful, presidential and every other superlative one could want. He spoke with such authority and intelligence. I'm sure some will pan his plan, but it sounded reasonable and responsible.
Now I'm going up-thread and read what everyone else wrote.
