John Kerry is truly a badass. |
|
That's my big revelation for tonight. I knew he was smart, I knew he was well-spoken. I knew his whole biography by about last month, could recite it for you.
But I had no idea he was a badass. That didn't just occur to me tonight, it was kind of cumulative.
To explain: the primaries. Yeah, I was pissed. My man Dean was supposed to be the man, then comes Kerry, whom I had hardly deigned to pay any attention to and takes it completely.
Ok so I got over it, lost the bitterness and moved on. If it's Kerry, so be it. But I was still mostly ABB.
And yet....I was kinda impressed by how he did that. Just totally hung in there, stuck it out and made it.
Then I started reading about his role in the Iran-Contra scandal and how he punked it out back then.
Then the hearings in which he was speaking for the soldiers still in Vietnam and the veterans who had come back.
Rather badass for a 27 year old.
I saw the Dick Cavett show when he debated O'Niell at the age of 27, too and was HIGHLY impressed by his style and demeanor on that show. (Aired on CSPAN in its entirety a while back.)
Then I started reading about how he is a "closer", that he has a ton of fight in him.
Then, finally, I saw this speech tonight. The man's a badass, no two ways about it. I'm convinced. Anyone who looks at him and thinks "patrician, weak" ends up being QUITE surprised when they look at him again. I know I've been pleasantly shocked by him the last six months or so.
I dare anyone to tell me he's not a total badass. Go on, try it.

2. Yes, I was stunned....... |

As much as I love Dean, and I still think Dean was very important.... Kerry was the best choice for the Democratic nomination.

12. I've supported Kerry from the start, but Dean lit the fire among the.... |
|
...grassroots and captured the imaginations of a lot of people that had never voted or were just becoming old enough to vote.
For that, ALL Democrats should be very grateful.
I'm betting Kerry has good plans for Mr. Dean.

4. He's a rocking badass, the best qualities of our generation. |
|
A pragmatic idealist, a believer in the American Dream, all that 60's and 70's stuff that was co-opted by the right and has been demonized for thirty years. John proves to us that we were right all along and now is the time to Make America America Again, what it never was but always should be.

6. They say he is best with his back against the wall. |

Bush has never had to fight for anything, he is always handed things. Kerry might just be able to take him, going down the stretch. God, I hope so.

7. I've just been listening to c-span callers and convention |
|
floor reactions to Kerry's speech and they agree with you in no uncertain terms.
A few callers on c-span said they were republican(from Texas and California) and now they are voting for Kerry/Edwards..especially after hearing their speeches last night and tonight!
The word "Gushing" comes to mind when describing their reactions..kinda like yours and mine!

I'll admit I didn't know he had this in him! I am stunned!
Clark was my guy. I was devasted when he pulled out of the race. However I supported Kerry. I put the sticker on my car, donated to the campaign as much as I could, and defending the guy to all my Puke co-workers... but I just wasn't as excited as I was by the idea of Clark being our nominee.
Well, tonight totally blew all of the little doubts that lingered away. I am energized and ready to work my ass off for Kerry. I have no qualms in saying that he was the right choice!
Kerry is a BADASS and he is going to kick Chimps ass all the way back to Crawford!

16. Ok a friend I haven't heard from in several |
|
months just called me and said tonight convinced her and her husband they needed to vote for Kerry. They've been fence sitters FOREVER, those frustrating people who KNOW bush needs to go but don't have the cajones to actually OPPOSE him (they voted for him in 2000).
Well, she was in tears. I was a bit startled and thought maybe someone had died but she said she's never seen her husband like this. He actually stood up and started clapping and yelling in their living room and she started sobbing. They are true believers. She asked me for Kerry's website address (he said it in the speech, but they didn't catch it) and I happily gave it to her. Her husband frigging got on the phone and wanted to know if he could make a donation to his campaign RIGHT NOW. I directed him to the site and he whipped out his Visa.
My God.
Badass, indeed.
