Anyone hear Al Franken's interview with Harry Reid? |
|
What did you think?
From what I caught, he was saying Social Security is safe right now, and that it's not a top priority compared to some of our other priorities; he mentioned clean water, etc. He also said, I believe, that he's been called by Bush to meet with him on Soc. Sec.
I am curious why Al has not mentioned the rally in Ohio?

7. That's not what Reid said. |
|
He said that Scalia was qualified to hold the position. Even most of the man's enemies would agree with that--hardly anyone thinks he's stupid or doesn't know the law.
There's a hell of a big difference between saying that someone is qualified and "wanting" that person.

2. I liked his comments on SS yesterday |
|
on one of the Sunday programs, maybe Meet the Press.
I don't know much about Reid, but I'm glad our senate leader is not part of the gang trying to kill Social Security.

I was impressed. And Harry Reid does not WANT Antonin Scalia to be Chief Justice, but is being realistic about opposing that (nearly impossible). Moreover, he and I feel the same way - Clarence Thomas would be a very poor choice - read his few opinions. Reid is being pragmatic - Scalia at least has an awareness of basic case precedent and legal history, and can articulate such.
Don't misunderstand, please. I think Scalia being Chief Justice - well, the idea of it brings a feeling of horror to me! But Thomas would be far worse. There are basic fundamental rights that even Scalia would not ignore - Thomas would, in my humble opinion.
Even though Harry Reid and I disagree on reproductive rights issues, he has repeatedly stated that overturning Roe v. Wade would be a very bad idea, and it would be disastrous. AT least he understands that.
And .. Reid is going to keep in touch with Air America, and praised its work...we will be good for Democrats in the Senate, and their provision of information will be good for us. I'm happy about his participation in that - and that he promised to furnish info. to AA.

5. Harry Reid is Repugnant Lite!!!! |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 02:00 PM by BrklynLiberal
He is against women's rights, supports the "Sanctity of Marriage" act, and his support of Scalia on Meet the Press was stated publicly before it was even necessary as a negotiating point with the Repugs!!! Of course Bush wants to meet with him. He knows he can walk all over him!! He will probably offer him a cabinet post!!! I cannot believe that the Dems would allow such a relatively rightwing person to be a leader. This is why the Dems are losing voters! And Franken did not even ask him one tough question!!!! Wellstone is Frankens hero....would Wellstone have supported Reid? I don't think so!!! Look what the Repugs did to Spector, and he was not as far left as Reid is right...what a ridiculous display of how far to the right the Democratic party is trying to go. yech!!!!!!!!

8. What I heard on MTP was: |
|
Reid called Bush a "Liar" and reiterated that he called him a "liar" over the Nuclear waste site in Neveda.....he also said that he thought Scalia was a good choice because he is soooo smart BUT that he had conflict of interest problems....he started to mention the duck hunting trip......I do not think that Scalia could ever make it as a Chief Justice mainly because he has been nasty as hell about the lack of intelligence of his fellow justices and has been very willing to write about it as well ....he is unpopular with them.Reid is a politician...he is playing the game.....and what about the "war room" that he has set up ?....I heard him loud and clear....they are going to fight the "spin".....I think he is a good choice.

9. Al Franken is happy about being invited to the inauguration |
|
He does not want to follow the Election Fraud Story.
I have stopped listening to his programme as there is an excellent alternative - Thom Hartmann, a really informed Talk Show host.
