Imagine the pope's funeral with President and Mrs. KERRY |
|
Just think how elevating that would have been for the world and for our reputation in it.
Theresa and John would be admired and respected by all the world leaders and their wives. We would be so proud to be represented by them.
Sniff. Sniff.

that's for sure - god it's humiliating whenever that Chimp opens his mouth

5. That would have been PROOF that Kerry's allegiance is to the Pope. |
|
He would have been the "Papal Papist President".
The Catholic hating fundie core gives Bush a pass.

11. Yes, but would we have cared what they said if they weren't |
|
in power? No, we haven't in the past, nor would have we now. What I think is weird is that the fundies seem to be subtlety trying to align themselves with the conservative elements of the Catholic Church.

7. Agreed. What a different feeling I would have if John -- |
|
-- and Teresa Heinz Kerry were representing our country.
I still can't get over the look of flabbergasted cluelessness on Dubya's face in the media photos of the Pope's funeral. It's very striking.

8. Kerry said two of his first acts as President would be submit healthcare |
|
legislation that expanded the accessibilty for the uninsured, including ALL children under 18. And to convene ALL the world's religious leaders in a summit to work together on solutions to encourage peace through their common philosophies.
It would have been the Pope's finest hour as one of the world's leaders in peace, especially since the Muslim world appreciated his stand against Bush's wars.

20. I couldn't help but think................ |
|
...with all the power represented in all those thousands of religious folks at the funeral, why is it that millions of children are still hungry and lacking clean water and medicine?
Why?
Why?
Is this God so small that he can't inspire these thousands of leaders to get off their ecclesiastical behinds and actually bring about peace and justice and community?

12. Carter would have been graciously allowed to go |
|
and Andy Card would be cooling his heels stateside for starters. That would have been a much better arrangement.
For the bushistas to have denied Carter, a truly honorable Christian man who walks the walk instead of being all talk, was mean spirited. Telling him no former presidents were going, then loading Poppy & Clinton on AF1 just plain hateful. I hope bush*s minister give him hell for it.

This is even more depressing than the funeral, and I am a Catholic, albeit not a religious one. We would have had a leader who we knew cared about us (John Kerry, and Teresa as well-as the Portuguese community how much they love and respect her). Instead, look at what we had representing us. The US as the laughing stock of the world continues. Poor Bill Clinton, having to sit with the four of them assholes.

21. Every day, I wake up, and |
|
I feel a little wave of doom before I start my day - because the Chimperer is still in the WH, alienating the world, destroying America.
It should have been Kerry. He is the better man, and I believe he rightfully won the election. We should be entering the dawn of a new era for America, a rebuilding, a different approach, a fresh start.
It's like a nightmare I can't wake up from.

24. He may just be the "shadow" President, but Kerry & Teresa WERE |
|
there at least to view the Pope's body. Kerry was on crutches, standing in line...waiting with all the other people. I was proud to see him there. And was impressed that despite the fact he recently had knee surgery, and was on crutches...that he stood in line all that time (ignoring his own pain) to honor the Pope. Such selflessness.
I imagine that his being there was covered more by the foreign Press.

30. If that was the case we would have had some respect there |
|
Edited on Sun Apr-10-05 08:11 PM by DemGirl7
With Bush as President, we have no respect in the world, I really find it hard to believe sometimes that we had respect though out theworld, and actually had some allies who now hate our guts. I think back to right after 9/11 that People world wide came out and prayed for us, and now People hate our guts because bush had to go and more or less give the middle finger to the whole world...It is reasons like Bush getting booed at the Pope's funeral and the whole Bush Presidency while we're at it that I don't consider Bush as my President...for the time being I have no President... I miss the good old days where we were respected somewhat and our leaders weren't booed overseas and you didn't need to call in the riot police whenever they came to town, but were greeted with cheers.
 :(
