3. I'll have to record it. |
|
Gotta watch 24 tonight. Missing one episode is like missing half the season.

4. They had two pieces of nasty revisionism in the first part. |
|
One was that the economy hadn't gotten better when in fact GDP nearly doubled from the 1933 bottom by 1940. Also, they used creative rounding in saying unemployment was close to 20% when it was actually at around 14% and that was a substantial reduction.
The second was the idea that our navy "had no ships" when we had the second largest navy on earth with the most impressive battle line. Also, even before the war we drew up designs for the North Carolina, Iowa, and Essex class capital ships. FDR doubled defense spending between 1933 and 1941 and that should be noted.

History Channel I've noticed is more rightwing. I liked it other wise cause of the old video footage of FDR himself and his grandson talking about his memories.

I think she was great. I really felt for her and her personal life. :( I know how she feels, well I don't know how SHE feels but I can relate. I love how she used her emotions to do good work and she wanted to be involved and not just a first Lady.

13. I think all women can relate to her. The insecurities, the lack of |
|
ability to make our needs known without threatening relationships, etc. etc. etc. Yes, times have changed but have they really? She struggled to find her voice and her power, just as many women still do. I consider her a heroine and roll model.

I would love to read people's responses. Eleanor really speaks to all humanity. We need to be reminded of such a wonderful person in this dark time.

It would be appropriate since they're showing the FDR legacy on History Channel.

14. I just watched the second part of part I |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-18-05 07:30 PM by Malva Zebrina
that was broadcast at 7-8pm.
I am in awe of Eleanor Roosevelt. Simply , she was an amazing woman. Dear heavens--think about it--that we now have Laura Bush-whose Christmas present was some cherished dessert plates and-a do nothing for most of her life, content to be marketed instead of really engaging passionately in any cause--content to slough along in order to be financed by the Bush family and be pampered all of her life for doing nothing but birth twins--sigh
Part II is on at 9pm.I hope I can stay awake for the whole of it.
