In case you have not been following the script... our country is being run by neocon followers who are now proposing the pre-emptive use of nuclear weapons... What part of reality do you not yet comprehend? BHN

You're right. I'm surrendering to either dispair or to French invaders, whichever arrives first. I'll gladly eat cheese or crow beneath the jackboots of my new corporate masters. The white flag I fly outside my window will be my socks, but only because my underwear isn't strickly white anymore.

10. It's kind of hard not to feel despair in this country |
|
The Republican Party is at the height of its power. You've got a desperate struggle for the Democratic Party between ordinary people and corporate interests trying to buy it out. You've got what looks to be another Vietnam-style war going on, and the nation was nearly brought to its knees because of poor planning in the wake of a natural disaster. On top of that, there's a 600 billion dollar deficit, and we collectively owe our creditors 7 trillion dollars.
I would say there is a fine line between being pessimistic and being realistic nowadays.

Have I ever been through anything "tough?" You have no idea. I can pretty much assess your "tough" life experiences by your inability to recognize "tough" when it is about to destroy everything you ever thought you knew. Only someone who has been through "tough" can recognize it when it is coming. You have no clue what "tough" is, or you would be able to see the shitstorm ascending on this country. BHN

Preparing because you fully comprehend the reality of WHAT you are facing is not "giving up." It is acting responsibly with full awareness of what you are up against. IF you honestly think, we, the people, can stop these monsters, then you are in a state of complete delusion. Respectfully, BHN

the US has lobbed off PRE-emptive nuclear attack ... Think it can't happen? Think again. They have already made it perfectly clear that they plan to do so, DESPITE what WE, the people think about that. The Dem representatives, in majority, are about as effective and helpful to us as a three legged dog on a hunt. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just plain DELUSIONAL.

As far as Rumsfeld, Bush, Cheney and the neocon thugs? They DO have nuclear bunkers and ARE willing to sacrifice us all to achieve their aims. They KNOW fully well what the ramifications of nuclear pre-emptive strikes will lead to as far as the civilians in America go. They do NOT care what happens to us a s a result of their nuclear lobs. Take a hint form the treatment of the Katrina victims. We are nothing to them. BHN

Truthfully, it is so sad that it has come to this. I'd bet a couple of million Americans would just pick up and leave the country if they had the resources to do it. I know I would. And it's all because of ChimpCo.

16. It's a sarcastic post...but then it's not |
|
I do get tired of the utter bullshit crapped out by the right that's passed off as the truth. I get tired of the cronyism and corruption. I get tired of the ignorance.
DU often gives me hope for the future. I know there are people who really care and will go the extra mile for one another. They will stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. I love that about DU.
It's also sarcastic because I think it's hilarious when a post is called defeatest when I don't view it the same as some.

It was a reaction from another post I read a little while ago, plus I was :grr: at the news of the death of a baby who was at the NO Superdome...then rover getting promoted to 'clean up' the Gulf States.
It was a combination of factors as to why I started it.

21. Calimary's motivational thread... PLEASE READ |
|
Defeatism seems to be a recurring theme today... I posted this on another thread earlier today.... This is from calimary's DUERS: THE FIVE-STAR ACTIVISTS' RESOURCE THREAD, UPDATED 7/9/04 http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=106x8816
(calimary offers a wonderful antidote to defeatism in the motivational thread below... please read her posts. IMO, it should be named 'The CALIMARY MOTIVATIONAL THREAD')
Post #112. Part Forty-One: The SAPPHIRE BLUE MOTIVATIONAL THREAD: This one's worth revisiting and keeping. We got into this discussion that brought out some people's fears, and other people's pep talks. I add it in here because it's like a booster shot. With things going the way they have been, as you can see from some of the posts, it is all too easy to become demoralized. FIRST: DO NOT - repeat - DO NOT kick yourself if you get down. It's HUMAN, okay??!?!??! And considering what we're still up against, it's rawther understandable to think it's pointless to try to do something, or tilt at windmills, if you will. But then, SECOND: BOOT BACK UP... and... (as I've renamed this in my own personal files) DO IT ANYWAY. Contact your US Representative - IMPEACH BUSH http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1739608

is in order here.
I teach "gifted" kids with IQ's over 135. One characteristic of this type of child is the tendency for them to internalize every thing they read and hear, to take the burdens of the world on their shoulders.
I am of the opinion that many people on this forum fit that category. And I think perhaps (tho I have never seen any sort of breakdown on demographics) that many are young, (as in under 40).
That can be a rough combination and I well remember my own younger years when I honestly believed that neither I nor my two young children would live more than a few years more because of the sheer volume of missiles the Soviet Union and the US had aimed at each other. I remember thinking "why should I bother?" No need to get new clothes... new furniture... finish that project, etc.
Well, it didn't happen. And I got older and missed a lot of opportunities. Yes, I know. It could. But think about it. Humans have always lived under threats. No civilization has been perfect. The plague, innumerable wars, infant and maternal mortality... huge threats for centuries.
Damn it, this might be the only life you have. (Unless the Hindus are right.) Live every day. If you have to, stop reading the blogs and the damned news and take at least a little break. Garden or pet the cat and remember you aren't responsible for everything in the world. I let an abstract concept of nuclear war that never happened control too much of my life.
