I like the idea, but then after reflection realized it would be better to leave the situation be. The repukes have used Bush's economy and resultant frustration to seek the recall. Arnold can't turn around the economic problems that afflict the whole country. Let him discover that sometimes it's better not to get what you ask for.
In the end, if the recall goes through--this may be to our advantage. The repukes may find this bites them in the ass.
Another recall may only serve to piss a lot of people off--the wrong people.

The recall has distracted the whole nation for several weeks. I'm hearing more about Arnold's sexcapades than about the outing of the CIA agent. Wrong priorities here.
Californians deserve to live with what they have decided for better or for worse. If they want a change, well, sometimes we all need to learn things the hard way. I don't want to see them suffer extraordinary hardships because of their own foolishness, but a little bit might wake them up. Arnold isn't going to solve California's problems without massive support from "the wealthy." I really don't think "the wealthy" are all that generous.

6. Counter-Recall a BIG Mistake |
|
The recall was a big, disgusting republican ploy and many people see it at that - including most of us. Why would you want to drop to that level and erase all the legitimate arguements of partisan politics and dirty tricks?
The reactionary behavior of a counter-recall may seem satisfying at first, but it sabotages our long-term goals, and our basic prinicples and ideals.
Please remember: we didn't start this war, and as long as we keep fighting it on their terms and by their rules, we will lose. Think about why they make end runs like this recall, Texas and BBV: Because we win when everybody plays by the rules.
Beware the backlash of any counter-recall effort: It will just give the millions of disenfranchised, apathetic and cynical NON-Voters another reason to not vote Democrat. Sure the Repubs will try to pull this again - but let THEM be on the receiving end of the backlash - not us.
The best thing our party can do is to actually practice what we preach: fighting for the little guy. Get the women, minorities, and all-around decent folks to the polls.
Let Arnie tank on his own lack of merit. California needs to learn their lesson the hard way if this recall goes through. And they'll realize their mistake by about this time next year.
Have patience. Our voters will be baaaack for 2004!

Recall for Arnie has already been planned and is ready to roll if he is elected. I'm 100% behind it. We have to stop losing these battles.

Do we have to embrace the total destruction of our system to make a point? I think if we try and recall him, the voters will take it out on us.

Let Arnie suffer through it and made those cuts, raise taxes or fees. Try his stupid audit idea and then recall him for broken promises!

...for the same reasons that I oppose the Davis recall-- it's an abuse of the recall provision in the state constitution. Unfortunately, it isn't any less egregious when used against a repig governor than when used against a democrat. I'm sorry, but this is WRONG. Davis isn't guilty of anything that should merit the recall, and so far, neither is Arnold. Let's not stoop to repig tactics!

You have to give the winner some time to attempt to turn things around or any recall attempt will be perceived as retaliatory.

18. The question isn't what would be best in the abstract |
|
It sounds almost certain that if Anold wins, somebody is going to be out there the next day gathering signatures -- and with a relatively low number of signatures needed, a second recall within a few months seems very likely.
So the real question is how the Demcratic Party (and potential Democratic candidates) should respond at that point.

19. If Arnold wins with fewer votes than the No vote gets, |
|
I would keep having recalls until the winner on the second part of the ballot gets more votes than the no vote on the first part.
Also, you have to remember that the no vote on the first part is a reflection of people's feelings about Davis's record.
If you have another recall without having anything to complain about ARnold having done, it's possible that people will vote no just to give him a chance.
Of course, I think the reason I gave above is enough reason to recall someone (ie, that they were undemocratically put in power). However, I don't know how many people would get on board with that idea, especially if you didn't have a ton of money with which you'd communicate that idea.

is a complete refusal of the California Dems to work with Arnold in any way. Try getting any work done with only 10%-20% of the electorate supporting you.

I'd be more worried if McClintock won, but I don't think this state needs or can afford another recall. Hell, we couldn't afford the one we're having!
But that's really a secondary issue. The main reason I don't support another recall is that Arnold really can't do much damage. Democrats control every major state office, the courts, and both halves of the state house. If the voters elect Arnold, they will simply be ensuring state gridlock for the next few years.
In other words, leaving Arnold in office will ensure that the people of this state NEVER elect another Republican governor. When they get a good view of how ineffective Republican governors are in this state, it will effectively kill their parties future.
This may sound brutal, but if the voters of California decide to impose Arnold on us, we should let them deal with the consequences of their decision. It's the ONLY way many people will every learn.
