Answer: Only if it works
If he comes back talking the same talk he's walking the same walk.

Not only will he walk and talk the same, he'll keep abusing substances.

it takes several YEARS to get clean. I don't recommend a 4th/5th step for at least a year.
Several times today he injected "program speak" into his hate speech. This is NOT a good start.

13. Recovering alcoholics I have known experienced wild mood swings |
|
My buddy and I were watching Dennis Hopper playing Frank Booth in the movie "Blue Velvet" and he said that Booth's raging was how his wild mood swings felt. That is scary, indeed.
Could you imagine Limbaugh being more of an a-hole than he is now?

hate speak at the same time. There are so many phases recovering junkies typically go through:
* Pink Cloud
* Extreme Depression
* Endless Guilt
* "I only hurt myself"
* God Fever
Like I've said, under the best of circumstances, it takes several years to even out - and that is when you work a program and get the help of people who have gone through it.

Good comments on the success of rehab - but I don't think the man's soul can be rehabilitated. He's too far gone, and too rich. By the way, nice to be able to afford all the rehab you need. What about the poor who are addicts? Oh yeah - that's what prisons are for.

I believe change is possible, though. I've seen it happen. Wouldn't it be something if he came back a totally new man, and changed his whole POV? Imagine the heart attacks the freepers would have.

He'll be back ranting about drug addicts before you know it.
And he will receive the customary slap-on-the-wrist reserved for Imperial Family Capos and Mouthpieces.

12. When junkies come out of treatment and act like that... |
|
they go right back to using - except they then tend to take a power dive to hell.
Normal odds are 1 in 10 recover. Judge for yourself what Limbaugh's odds are. Hint: 30 day rehabs are a joke. 90 days is a bare minimum.

Nothing happens to the dopes who snort Bush's Ass! Remember what the pubbies always say about people with hurt backs, "Easiest thing in the world to fake!" Politicians and their pals, are the ones who need to take random drug tests! I'm Glad Asscroft demanded tougher sentences for criminals like Rush!

I've noticed a trend among the fundy freepers in my family: NEVER ADMIT ANYTHING IS YOUR FAULT. It's always someone else's fault. Always. I get tired of owning up to my own mistakes while they forgive me.
Rush Limbaugh helped fill them full of this self-righteous hatred by telling them what they wanted to hear. I will always be angry with Limbaugh. I can feel compassion for his drug addiction, but still feel he should do jail time and be kicked off the air permanently.
Of course he was one of the first spewers of hatred and now that he's made it "OK" we have many Rush clones to deal with.
He helped make my family into the racist, bigoted folks they are today. Of course, they had to be bigoted in the first place to listen to that tripe. But it still hurts. Part of me feels a personal grievance against Rush because of this.
Sorry, I just can't forgive the man for his message of misogyny, bigotry, etc. I can wish him a happy drug-free life in anonymity, but that's about all. I do not think he will change. That's very rare.
David Brock is the only one of the radical right that has changed (to my knowledge) and that's because he finally acknowledged that his homosexuality did not fit in with the right-wing agenda. Rush will think he has a "little problem" that can be conquered and he'll be the right-wing hero again.

He'll self-righteously use his detox or whatever he does as a battering ram against people with addiction problems: "I can do it...what's wrong with you?" In the meantime, I seriously doubt he'll have it dealt with. I don't think he could come out of a substance abuse program and be able to continue doing and saying the things he does if he truly learns anything from it.
