Why I f***ing hate sports, Part 948. |
|
With the situation in Iraq getting continually worse, with members of Congress proposing the return of a military draft, and with the shit hitting the fan over the Bush family's dealing with the Saudi Royal Family, guess what my college radio station has done? Both yesterday and today, WHUS pre-empted "Free Speech Radio News" to bring us those all-important UConn Huskies softball games.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I FUCKING HATE SPORTS!!!!! :grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke::grr::nuke:

Especially football. It is blasphemy in Texas to say so. But I'll burn at the stake for that one.
I find full grown men running around getting paid millions of dollars to play children's games sick and disgusting.

Children's games that are mostly played by adults and invented by adults. Adults do like to have fun you know and it's not only men. There is the WNBA, WTA, LPGA, etc. How about actors and actresses getting paid 25 million for a single movie?

Nothing anyone does in that short a time warrants that much money.
You will never sway me in my disgust of sports.

14. I think it's possible |
|
to agree with you about the unworthiness of the money involved and still have a love for the sports themselves. It's hard to explain to someone who isn't interested in it, but money, steroids and primadonnas aside, sport is one of the things that honestly gets me through the day. I don't know what I'd do without it.

24. I don't find the money they make disgusting... |
|
I mean, the market wants to see sports, and they pay astronomical amounts of money for tickets. And the owner shouldn't get ALL that money, should they? BUT, what I DO find disgusting is athletes that bitch and moan while being paid millions to play a sport. I actually LOVE sports. It's the COMPLAINING about "unfair labor rules", etc., because of wanting MORE MONEY. I mean, the word "labor" shouldn't be anywhere NEAR sports. It's as bad as these billionaire bastards bitching about high taxes. BOO FREAKING HOO! Shut up and play. That being said, I'm a HUGE UConn Huskies fan. :) But mostly basketball. Rambling........

You can blame being ostracized constantly in PE for that. Hockey was the only sport that I was even marginally good at.

15. There's saying here in Connecticut when it comes to basketball |
|
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 04:45 PM by SarahBelle
It's where the men are men and the women are champions. (of course this year the men were too, but the women have a better overall record)
I'm not much of a basketball person and I get what NightTrain is talking about (totally), but my daughter loves it (and plays it), so I like that it is considered very cool around here for girls to play basketball (and other stuff too).

Real wrestling or the wrestling on tv? Being that you are from Ohio I would say that you are a fan of real wrestling as your state produces some of the best in the country. Currently hands down the best high school wrestler in the country.

sports are perfect for times like now. It gives many of us something to look forward to, and provides human interest stories that are a stark contrast to the rest of the news.
Look, there's a reason that FDR personally ordered major league baseball to remain open during WWII. I don't see how now is particularly different.

19. I Am Not A Sports Fan |
|
Personal preference as much as anything else.
I wasn't at all interested in sports as a kid, but I sort of started to become interested in baseball, and particularly the Chicago Cubs as a teenager in the late 60's, when I was living in the Chicago area and the Cubs started doing well after 20 years of losing seasons.
I became emotionally attached to them and was pretty upset when they weren't going to win the pennant in 1969, after it looked like they would for most of that year.
And living in San Diego, I had very mixed feelings in 1984 when the Cubs ended up losing to the Padres.
I would still very much like for the Cubs to win the National League pennant and even the World Series, but I don't wish to invest emotional energy about them doing so.
I have felt that there are lots of other things I would prefer to invest my emotional energy in than the outcome of any sports competition, or how any sports team does.
