my roommate just found a paul reed smith guitar in the dumpster.. |
|
maple burl top, the thing is immaculate. We're talking about a $2000 rig, at the very least. It was in a hard case, along with a gig bag with some DSP. We're trying to figure out if it was stolen and dumped, or if it was thrown out by someone's pissed-off SO.

They'll help you find the owner.
If an angry SO dumped it, it's as much a crime as if a stranger stole it.

3. Call the cops in case it was reported missing/stolen |
|
Might be a reward in it for you or if no one claims it after a certain amount of time, it's yours.

Unless someone had a strange religious conversion and decided electric guitars are the tool of Satan, they're sitting on hot property.

6. Check with your local music stores that buy instruments-most musicians |
|
that have been ripped off usually have a warning system to the stores in case someone tries to sell stolen stuff.
Other than that-what a find!

I agree, that would be the proper thing to do. I'm going to try and convince him to do that very thing. I would imagine that if isn't reported as lost or stolen, he will get to keep it.
I think for now that he is going to check the bulletin board down by the mailbox to see if anything is posted.
On a side note: I'm am disgusted that he found this, and not me!! I always take the damn trash down, and I don't find jack krap. I can even play.. a little.

I work at Guitar Center in Chicago. PRS hand writes their serial numbers on the headstock, which makes them easy to remove. That makes them a very popular theft item.
If there is a Guitar Center in your area, give them a ring and tell them the serial number. We have people call us about stolen guitars from all over the country, and if it was sold at a Guitar Center we know who bought it.
Might be able to track down the owner that way...
on edit: God, I hate guitar thieves...

why would sombody steal something like that and dump it? It could easily fetch an 8-ball of some of the local handcrafted crank.
