Peter Griffin is the only one who didn't knock up his wife as the reason for marriage.
IRL, Al Bundy would never stay married by choice, he's just stuck there. Homer would definitely stay married, as Marge is his soul mate, and he's "totally and completely dependent on her". Marge and Homer obviously love each other. Peter Griffin appears to enjoy his marriage, so much so that he wears his scrotum on his chin for everyone to see. :]3

Peter Griffin - Have you seen their sex life? They've got the entire bondage with whips thing going on, obviously they are a match for each other.
Homer Simpson - Means well, and Marge is patient enough to deal with his stupid ass.
Al Bundy - I dunno, I'd be giving Peg a run for her money quite frequently, I don't know what his problem is.

5. why are the men always so infantile? |
|
Tho Bundy's wife is not really very mature herself, the trend in these sitcoms is for the man to be a loveable "big kid" who screws up in some way and the wife to be almost motherly, mature, never does wrong, etc.
You just don't see the other side very often - rational, loving, overly-forgiving husband with a "big-kid" wife who farts, fantasizes about food, etc.
I find this to be part of the strait-jacket the media put women into...

7. How old are you, laura888? |
|
Middle-aged grumps like myself can remember forgiving, almost patronizing TV husbands such as Ricky Ricardo, Jim Anderson, Ward Cleaver, Darrin Stephens, or Mike Brady, to name a few. Your point about infantile male characters is correct, and has been for a generation. The "men" of "Seinfeld", "Home Improvement", "Friends", "Drew Carey", and "Everybody Loves Raymond" are wastes of Y chromosones.

9. Yes, their wives were dipicted as the " stay-at home" |
|
wife who didn't really have her own identity. Do you remember watching those shows while the women vacuumed the floor in their high heels and pearls? Lucy was a front-runner of women's lib.
I'm an old bitch myself. The pugs want women like those shows depicted. Of course, it takes a whole lot of money to support that!
I like shows such as Law and Order - women have a BRAIN!

8. A female Homer wouldn't go over too well. |
|
It would be depicting women in too negative a light. The closest thing I can imagine would be the Jean Teasdale column of the onion.
