Since I'm going to be miserable until I do it: |
|
I might as well do it.
I've been putting it off for years. I've been setting goals I don't want to accomplish and then feeling bad when I don't follow through. Why am I torturing myself?
I'm scared that I'll disappoint my parents, that I'll not get the health-care I need, that I'll die poor and alone, that other people will look at me as a wannabe, that I'm to old, that I'll be a loser and that 10 years from now my nieces & nephews will be embarrassed for me.
Don't ask what I have to do, I'm not going to tell DU and I know this post makes no sense. I simply wanted to post this thread so I can bookmark it as a kind of quasi-public record.

But once you have made it across, it will seem to have been the only path you could have taken.

Could be wanting a new job, wanting to form a band, wanting to go back to school, or all sorts of other things!

6. Look at Wayne Dyer's book "The Power of Intention" |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-21-04 11:28 PM by Radio_Lady
If you can get a copy, please consider his theories. We just broadcast the PBS special here in Oregon. It's very enlightening to hear this fellow give us a positive outlook. I interviewed Dyer in the 1970's (he had more hair then!) after he wrote his best seller "Your Erroneous Zones" and he's an amazing chap.
I'm probably much older than you are, but believe me, I know that putting off goals can be terrorizing. It's really better to define your goals YOURSELF -- I don't know how old you are, but are you that young that your parents have to be considered at all? Health care is essential in this life -- if you have something physical that's wrong, or mental even -- you need to address it. I have no idea what your real goals are, but putting them down in paper and thinking about them -- REALLY thinking about them, might help. What also might help is to sound this stuff off on a friend or a professional counselor. I've done all of the above in my life. I'm 65 years old and still active, doing what I love to do. That's after many crossroads in my life.
Anyway, good luck to you in 2005! Let us hear from you.

7. Don't worry about disappointing anyone but yourself. |
|
If not doing this will leave you miserable, then nobody wins. Do it. You might just surprise yourself at how well it turns out.

It never hurts to talk about things with someone outside of your family and friends before making any major changes. Just be careful and think about the consequences. If it will make you happier, do it, but if it will hurt you, talk to someone.

I've read all the replies and agree with the majority. If what you are contemplating hurts absolutely no-one (including yourself)it is worth trying. It pays to listen to one's spirit. Most of us are not quiet long enough to hear it. Good Luck.
