Has anyone been watching the "Blues" series on PBS? |
|
I haven't been able to until tonights episode - directed by Clint Eastwood. Focuses on piano blues.
Seems like a great series. I hope I can rent it at the video store someday soon.

4. Video and CD's of the show are available |
|
at PBS.org. About 140.00 I checked because my husband loves the blues. I taped a few shows for him but forgot one day last week and tonight. Looks like I'll have to dig deep and get it for him for Christmas. Checking the sofa for loose change.

7. I have been watching all week |
|
but tonight I missed it since I was at B.B. King's blues club in New York City (pretty good excuse huh?). I saw Delbert McClinton and was about 10 ft. from the stage (and about 2 ft. from the speakers, so don't ask me anything since I CAN'T HEAR YOU). Great show. See him if you ever get the chance. The keyboard player in the band was the best I have every seen. :-)

goosebumps . . .
I loved the piano blues episode tonight . . . so many of my favorites were included, some great performances . . . Art Tatum is inbelieveable! . . . only wish they'd included other keyboards, i.e. the Hammond B-3 . . . tons of incredible blues have flowed from that instrument . . .

12. I have had it on all week -- it is as great as Burns' Civil War years ago |
|
A stunning documentary. Just stunning.
When one's PBS station does a fundraiser and they offer the series on DVD for a $500 contribution - GET IT.
I think (?) that PBS stations will be replaying it like one night a week for a lot of weeks or something. They keep advertising it to start showing around Oct 6th or so......(like on Am. Experience or something). I could be wrong.
I have had it on every night all week. And it has touched my soul in a big way. The blues are just that...the blues: so much sadness and suffering but with such strength. I don't want to diminish the plight of the black man in this country by saying this, but I relate to oppression for the first time in my life. I just didn't realize how heavy my heart is in response to our new fascist country. I was a blues fan before, but now I feel I am a part of the blues. We all are.
I look at the bush years not as making life worse for the majority of Americans, but simply pushing down ONE CLASS of people down into the reality of what America has been for the lower classes for a couple of centuries.

I thought the one directed by Wim Wenders was incredible. "The Soul of a Man" I wish I recorded it.
