What a great movie. I know I'm behind the times. What a tear-jerker movie. And I thought Sean Penn did an incredible job. Anyone else with me on this one?

I was just reading your post and the replies and was not going to be the party-pooper. But now that I know what your wife thought. I thought it was like a manipulative Life-Time channel TV movie.
The movie gets you cheering for the Penn character to get to raise the little girl on his own--until you wonder, would you feel safe letting him baby sit your 7 year old for the day? NO WAY because the character is not competent to do so.
But I thought Penn's performance was incredible. I can't stand child actors but the little girl Dakota Fanning (I think that is her name) melted my cynical heart.

with a great soundtrack. I really thought Penn deserved the Oscar for it more then Denzel did for Training Day, though I thought they were both really good.

9. Why didn't they use the original Beatles tunes? |
|
Instead of re-recording them? Was it a matter of money or that the Beatles wouldn't let them be used?

13. My respect for Sean Penn shot up about 10,000% watching that one |
|
Too bad the movie is so emotionally manipulative and drippy, but otehrwise a good film with Penn acting BRILLIANTLY. He'd earned much respect from me for Dead Man Walking, but this one really topped it - he should have gotten an oscar (but then, ididn't see the Denzel movie, so I don't know what his performance was like there, either).
Penn really should be in more movies - a rising star and gem of an actor. Who'd a thunk the surfer dude and Madonna hubby had talent?
