" Which truth do you find most difficult to accept " |
|
Edited on Fri Mar-18-05 04:55 PM by moof
1. There are no ghosts 2. There are no alien UFOs 3. There are no elections in America 4. There are no supernatural beings 5. There are no psychics 6. There are no deities
For example would you be willing to give up a belief in deities if it meant America could have real elections ?

4. Those are extraordinary claims. |
|
Edited on Fri Mar-18-05 04:56 PM by fiziwig
I hope you have extraordinary evidence!
As for #1, I faced my own counterexample many years ago, and as much as I wanted to believe what you believe, the facts refused to be denied. But faith is a funny thing. I don't expect that facts would do much to shake your faith.

until such proof is made it is equally incorrect to assert with certainty that the claim is false. You may state only that it is unsubstantiated.
As for proof, I have all the proof I need for myself, although my personal experience is only anectdotal to you, and worthless as proof. In some cases there can be no "public" proof. I know I dreamt of taking a boat ride last night. Can I prove it to you? No. Can you prove that I did not? No.
So to assert that there are no ghosts is to make a claim that is as faulty as to claim, in the absence of public proof, that there are. You claim is an article of faith with you and it cannot be shown to be "truth" by any stretch of the imagination. As much as you want your assertion to be true, wishing doesn't make it so.

the choice was offered that seemed to be an offer that could not be refused but the reply was stunning. What if you knew bush was going to unleash a chain of events that would result in a human being extinction event such as a nuclear winter from so many H-Bombs being dropped on the planet?
The answer from the otherwise regular average person was, "Good deal, the sooner the better." they explained " that way they would be in heaven and not have to wait any longer for the end times that are coming soon anyway."
