50. Another proud Wisconsinite (sp?) |
|
I was born in the cute little town of Ripon, where my dad was teaching at Ripon College. Then he got drafted (this was 1943) and we left; my mom and I went to live with her parents on their farm just outside Palatine, Ill. I've lived in California most of my life. Got back to see Ripon with my adult eyes in the 1990's, and loved the town. How different my life would have been if I'd grown up there...

Maybe we're related! But I doubt it...lol Ripon is such a pretty town, IMHO. It made me so happy to visit my birthplace...And the farm outside Palatine was a real haven to me and my mom during WWII.

Drove through Ripon a few times(home of the National Forensics League. Isn't it also supposed to be home of the Republican Party?)
Palatine-cousin moved there from Kenosha about 8 years ago. She bought a townhouse there.

If you ever saw the Chemico factory in New Brunswick, that's where my father worked. I liked the combination of dirty industrial sections with tree-lined Princeton University just up the road. There's a surprising amount of variety and beauty in NJ. Just no big cities.
And despite the complaints of New Yorkers, I like the fact that the Giants play in E. Rutherford.

My dad was born in New Hampshire. I don't think he's any less of a Mainer for it. New Hampshire is not too different from Maine anyhow. He's been living in Maine for 36 years now, and he is going to be 56 this year. I even consider my mom to be a Mainer. She's lived in Maine just as long as my dad, but she's originally from Minnesota.

And speaking of Angels, I have tix for seven games this season -- whoo-hoo!:bounce:

104. Well, let's see -- I was four years old when I left there -- |
|
kidnapped by my parents to Florida.
My grandmother had a house on Beechwood Boulevard. I think my young parents lived on Fernwald Road. I was born at the McGee Hospital which someone said is now the Women's McGee Hospital.
Are you at the University of Pittsburgh? Do they call it the Tower of Knowledge or something like that?
My mother went to school there, but didn't finish. She got pregnant with -- ME! That was when she was 18 years old -- so she had me at 19. I know she regretted not finishing. She wanted to be a journalist?

I think you're referring to the Cathedral of Learning. The hospital is now Magee-Women's Hospital. Beechwood Blvd. is beautiful - wide tree-lined street with gorgeous homes.

139. Law? My father was a lawyer. He was from Duquesne, and |
|
my mother was from McKeesport.
I did get to see my grandmother's home on Beechwood Boulevard (she had since moved to California). Is that in Squirrel Hill? I remember the beautiful trees on her street. I have vague memories of napping in an upstairs bedroom on fresh white sheets. Also, I locked myself in the bathroom and the firemen had to put up a ladder and get through a small windows to release the lock. I must have been only 2 1/2 or 3 years old.
I've been back to Pittsburgh -- once as a teenager, interested in radio, I toured Radio station KDKA. The person who showed me around was a young man named Merrill Pannett, as I recall. I went again much later, to my cousin's wedding (he and his brother have since moved to Philadelphia) in the early 1980's. And, I was a guest once on psychologist Sonia Friedman's TV show.
A funnny story -- when I had my talk radio show in Boston, a doctor called me and said he knew that my birthday was May 31st. Further, my mother knew his mother from Pittsburgh. I inquired how that happened. Apparently, he and I were born on the same day at the McGee Hospital! That was fun.
How many more years do you have at school? You said you'd only be there for a while longer. Where will you practice law?
Best of luck to you. I'd love to see Pittsburgh again, but don't have any more relatives there -- Last time I was there, I did get to see the "Golden Triangle" -- a far cry from the sooty, smoggy, coal-dust covered city I heard my parents talk about for years.
In peace, Radio Lady
