DU cable subscribers, a question please?........ |
|
I have been without cable TV for awhile now and I have been feeling the call of the idiot box (mostly for sports and news). However, I was snapped abruptly out of my info-tainment revere when I called mien kabel company and got a quote on their basic package (72 ch). the quoted me a price of $47.00, on top of my existing $46 internet service bill, bringing my prospective cable charge up over $100! I was shocked! I talked to my folks, who live about an hour south of me, and they are only paying just over $70 for both.
Is everyone else's cable rates this high? Or is this company getting away with highway robbery? And isn't it customary to offer your existing customers a break for adding a service?

1. Everyone who pays extra for cable TV in addition to cable internet |
|
is being ripped off. It costs cable companies probably not an extra 3 cents to enable cable broadband in a home that's already hooked up for cable TV.
Actually, the cable laws are rigged so that local cable competition is prevented!

2. Mine is 45 for plain ole basic 45 channel cable |
|
I'm getting ready to cancel it and just get netflix. We don't watch much anyway, and I'm sick of paying out the butt and nothing's ever on. A friend of mine has basic cable and net and pays $100/mo. That's just ridiculous imo.

5. You probably live in an area where the Kable Kabal has paid off |
|
your Mayor, or City Counsel, or whoever gets to grant the exclusive right to provide "service" in your area. This is a common, and widely known practice in the industry. Sorry, try the dish and DSL, it's much less than that. :puke:

6. A friend of mine told me if you call the cable company and tell |
|
them that you are thinking of switching to DSL or DirectTV, even if you aren't, they will give you a better price.
I still haven't tried it, though, although it is on my to do list.

11. We actually did that. |
|
Except we followed through on the threat. Ended up with a fantastic promotional deal with Verizon (who does have to compete with other co's) for DSL, and moved to Dish Network, which is a better service and experience all around (helpful customer service, responsive tech, etc). And we get more channels & variety than we could ever get from a similarly-priced (read: non-digital) package from Comcast (the monopoly in DC).
FWIW.

7. I pay $72 for both but I'll be switching soon |
|
A Comcast guy came to my door recently and offered me both for $54 but had woken me up and was rude so I declined. A couple of days later I started to have major problems with RCN. When the whole situation was resolved they apologized and offered me a free month. As soon as that month is up I'm switching to Comcast.

8. I think it depends on whether there is cable competition.... |
|
In the areas where there is more than one cable company competing for business, the prices seem to be more reasonable. Where I am, Comcast is the only choice and they charge accordingly. :-(

9. I have Basic with internet through Comcast... |
|
just got my next months bill and it is $99.65! I GOTTA have the history channel and TBS and WGN and stuff, so I guess I'm stuck with it. I checked into DSL once, and it just can't compare to the 6mges that comcast puts out through their cable internet service.

10. I just signed up for cable, now that they (finally) offer hi-speed |
|
internet in my area.
We are getting an introductory deal of internet and basic cable tv for $49 for 6 months, then $64.95 for another 6 months. After that I think it is about $85, I don't remember for sure.
Bye-bye satellite internet! I won't miss you! (Although I am a little scared about cable TV - I have willpower issues, I am afraid I will be sucked in all winter :scared: )

12. I killed the cable monkey |
|
Charter was jacking me over $100 a month for internet and premium channels. 300 channels of shit. I tried to cut out the premium channels to save money, and they told me that by breaking up the package deal, I'd end up paying MORE. So I told them where to stick their fucking box. It's been almost two years, and I don't miss it. Fucking piracy.
