So the African American kid, the new face in the crowd, won the contest. |
|
The kid that spoke most about the need to change the corrupt establishment came in second.
And the kid who was the original frontrunner, the expected winner, and the contestant whose relative was a prior winner of the same contest, came in third.
If you haven't already guessed, yes, I'm talking about the movie "Hairspray." I first saw the movie last weekend. I'm glad that Velma von Tussle got hers, and I cheered for Tracy and Little Inez in the end. Although I think Penny was my favorite character--a sheltered kid raised by an overprotective religious zealot...I can so relate.
I don't want to reveal any more, but this was a great movie, highly recommended if you're looking for a movie to rent this weekend. :hi:

7. You know, I've never seen the original. |
|
But I like John Waters (and I *loved* Divine in "Pink Flamingos"), so I will definitely be watching the original "Hairspray" soon. :)

8. The original is better...and the story plays out differently: |
|
*SPOILERS*
>Tracy wins the contest (at an auto-show); Inez is a minor supporting player.
>Velma suffers life-threatening injuries when she is scalped by a home-made explosive device.
>Penny's mother is overtly racist (instead of a mere religious fanatic). Prudence Pingleton's hysteria upon finding herself stranded in a 'colored' neighborhood is very funny.
