A 38-year-old man suspected in connection with the slaying of his girlfriend in Newark, Del., was arrested Tuesday at a North Austin gas station on his way to Mexico, police said today.
New Castle Police were looking for Alejandro Cruz as “a person of interest” in the 34-year-old woman’s death, which happened around 1 a.m. Tuesday. The woman was found inside the garage of her home, dead from multiple stab wounds to her upper body, police said. Her name was not released.
Investigators with the U.S. Marshal’s office, the New Castle County Police Department and the Austin Police Department were looking for Cruz Wednesday and learned he was headed to Mexico. The marshals told Austin police to be on the lookout for Cruz, who was spotted by an Austin officer at a North Austin Shell gas station in a car that belonged to the deceased woman.
He was arrested there Tuesday night at around 9:40 p.m. without incident, police said.
