Four day migraine and Tryptans not responding. |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 10:34 PM by Mike03
It's not unusual for me to get a migraine, but it is really, really unusual for me to get a migraine that lasts four days and does not respond to the tryptan drugs like Imitrex.
I'm getting a little bit nervous.

2. Please see your doctor. |
|
Get someone to take you there.
Come back and let us know what the doctor says.

3. By what route are you taking your Imitrex? |
|
I find the statdose injection works faster and better than the pill form. The pills just barely seemed to do anything, but the injection generally will knock out my headache in about 30 minutes.
I am also taking a calcium channel blocker which is supposed to help reduce the frequency of my headaches.
That is my own experience of course.

6. Oral form. I try fifty mg, and if that doesn't work another fifty. And |
|
if I get desperate, one hundred.

5. Maybe you all are right, I should probably get this checked out. |
|
Should I go to an ER or try to make an appointment at a clinic or something? I have been very health so I don't have a regular doctor to call.

7. Perhaps there is an urgent care center close by? |
|
They may send you to the ER anyway, but why pay a $75 copay when you can get by on a $15 copay.

8. Yeah, I don't know why this one is so bad. Nothing is helping it |
|
at all. It just keeps getting worse and worse.

I just tried another twenty five mg of Imitrex; hopfully this might work.
Thx for your help. I know you are right in your advice.

13. If it does not work, please go see someone. |
|
If for nothing else, just to get some relief (stronger drugs...).

10. My friend said her son's migraines only respond to chiropractic |
|
therapy and a massage. He is just 14, but it seems to cut the migraines right off.

11. I went to a migraine workshop a few years ago and remember the MD talking about rebound migraines |
|
and those don't respond to the regular Tryptans...better go to the urgent care and try something else..

14. Thanks, I am worried about rebound migraines myself, as you |
|
point out. I try not to take tryptans very often, but this week just seems to be particularly brutal. I'm sure thing will be fine.
