8. Isn't a 20% across the board considered good? Servers, taxi's, etc. |
|
My haircuts are 23 and I give her 30.

That's for just about anything, unless the service was absolutely nonexistent. I've worked in tipped jobs, so I've been in those shoes.
The 10-percenters have always pissed me off in serving jobs, as have the "verbal tips," especially when someone was definitely taken care of. They don't quite cut it for paying the bills. Like I said, BTDT, so I know better. :)

12. I haven't had a haircut in over a year. |
|
For most of last year, I had no hair. Then I started growing it back in September and been letting it grow ever since. But when I did get haircuts a couple of years ago, I always tipped $3-4 for a $13 haircut.

13. Nothing. They don't accept tips. |
|
They charge what they're worth and they don't accept extra. It seemed awkward at first, but the salon manages to pay everyone well and provide benefits. It seems to work better than making people rely on tips.

14. 20%. It's a lot of money. I wish I could find a more reasonable alternative. |
|
As it is, I am letting my hair grow out and I've stopped coloring it.

Hell, mine won't even let me PAY him. It's good to have a retired hairdresser friend!
but I think the rule of thumb is 20 to 25 percent, unless they OWN the salon, in which case you're not obligated to tip. I would always tip them anyway, though.

17. I love my stylist...I have been going to her |
|
Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 11:28 AM by mtnester
for more than 18 years. She was fresh out of school when I tried her, she is close by and she made up for every bad haircut I had ever had in my life. Her hair is exactly like mine in texture, curliness, color and thickness. She is younger than I so she has less gray than I do.
I willingly and lovingly hand over $30.00 every 5 week to her as her tip (which I think amounts to right at 25%) and for Xmas, she gets whatever one whole service is from me when I get the works (cut, color, highlight)
