Anyone else love Kathy Griffin? |
|
I'm watching a new stand-up by her that I haven't seen, Straight to Hell, on Bravo right now. Post-Emmy-Jesus-remarks.
I can't help but love her. I wasn't really into her until a couple of years ago, right when I got back from living abroad, and two of my friends said, "We figured out who you remind us of! Kathy Griffin!" I was like, "I don't look like a drag queen!" But they clarified: I just tell stories like her, not look like her. Haha!
Anyway, I can't help it, she cracks me up. I also like how's she's open about being an atheist and not wanting kids. Check, and check.

Unfortunately, I don't have Bravo (I believe I would need to get Dish). I love checking out her clips on youtube, though.

We've got tickets to her September 5 show in Atlanta.
This will be the 3rd time, and I hope not the last.

I love her and I've never seen her live before so I'm excited! :bounce: She's also the reason why I can't stand Ryan Seacrest: Part One of the story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR3YVMdhnjI Part Two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sJcHkeNV54&feature=related

5. I have a love/hate thing with Kathy Griffith. |
|
For starters- (this is the 'LOVE' part) she's not a "standup comic". She's a "monologist", what used to be known as a "storyteller".
And that's a lot more RARE and SPECIAL than being a "standup".
In her live performances, she doesn't tell "jokes", she just talks. She talks about ordinary everyday crap. She could talk about a day when she didn't even get out of bed, and that would be 90 minutes of great TV that would have me glued to the screen, y'know?
That's a rare gift, and one that's very underappreciated in our modern society.
The 'hate' started to come in with her "reality series'...she's totally shallow, and self-involved to a degree that borders upon 'sociopathic'.
And, what bothers me most: that's not her real face. She's had DOZENS of surgeries to the front of her head over the years, she doesn't look anything like her DNA intended anymore, and that's just something that rubs me the wrong way.

because I think I first saw her on Seinfeld and her character (Sally) was so freaking annoying. Not that I'm a fan of Seinfeld's standup (I'm not), but the show was great. Anyone like Paula Poundstone? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5agyc_HC8g

I was watching that earlier today. She cracks me up!
They also showed one of her previous routines... the one were she slams Anne Coulter. Now that was epic!

She's progay, prowomen an atheist and a lib. She doesn't really tell jokes, she tells really funny stories. She makes fun of people who seek fame, then makes fun of herself for doing the same thing.
Her reality show made her seem vain, shallow, mean and self-obsessed. But aren't we all sometimes? And I don't think it was reality. I think it was a joke. But even if it was real, at least she was honest about it.
