3 dogs. Dog #1 is 16, was born on this property, never really had a free hand because his parents were here first, of course, and had their personalities and places secure. He's an outside dog, comes in for night feeding and for bad weather and fireworks. On a pill for thyroid, but otherwise has a good appetite, runs and barks when not sleeping the rest of the day.
Then two years ago came dog #2. There was some slight jealousy and disappointment for #1, but it was mitigated by #2 being an inside dog. They play together.
But all heck is breaking out, not in the aggressive department, but in the DEPRESSION for #2 when #3 came along about three months ago. At first he was curious, then they started playing and chasing, and at times he even showed concern for her and even did modeling behavior to teach her how to come inside. But as #3 has gotten more comfortable, she started biting his lips and testicles and HOLDING ON. She's only playing. He's a timid little dog, can't even bite. They're both inside. It's gotten to the point that he doesn't want to be around her at all and slinks off to a safe place and almost doesn't interact with anybody. Whenever she's picked up, he's staring with sad eyes.
#3 is starting to get "down" because she's told to leave him alone and when *he's* coddled.
It's a disaster.
And I want to take this opportunity to apologize to somebody here (I don't remember who it was), who asked about housebreaking a puppy. I replied back then (before #3) that it was EASY AS PIE. Well, I'm up at 1 and 5 AM to take her out and she STILL isn't getting the message. I take her out after she sleeps and after she eats, and she does it fine, but she still is doing it inside.
