We have our very first kitteh! He's orange and playful and ......different from dogs..... |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-19-11 11:36 PM by Rowdyboy
My partner and I are dog people (he's had one dog or another for over 50 years but neither of us have ever had a cat). Last year we had the back yard fenced and soon a pregnant cat left us an unexpected gift. Out of the blue we had a small orange blur dodging our feet, desperately trying to tell us he was starving. We surely didn't want a cat but my partner reluctantly asked me to buy food. Four months later, we have a kitteh.
Our dog, a 12 year old Jack Russell isn't impressed but she's very easy going so its not a problem. The cat, born under our house is completely domesticated, loves belly rubs and tuna, and has had all his shots (as of yesterday). His name is Skimbleshanks (Yes, we love "Cats") but we just call him Hank (or more often Orange Kitty). Michael swears he'll be an "outside" cat. We'll see.
Anyway, wish me well on my new adventure.

1. You've crossed over to the Dark Side! |
|
Soon you'll be posting cute pictures and sharing funny anecdotes!
Congrats! BTW, outdoor only cats are an urban myth. Invest in a good lint brush. :)

7. I'm very embarrassed to say that I'm too technologically illiterate to post pictures.... |
|
We have a camera, we just aren't really good about using it.
He's just an average orange kitty, and I'd love to show him off. Someday we'll get it all together but not today.

|
don't be embarrassed lots of us needed help to learn.
we have a small dog/large cat situation here too - the look on the cat's face when this dog showed up was unforgettable! (there were already several large dogs here and that was all he was used to)

24. It's really pretty sad-we have the equipment, we're educated-just not |
|
particularly comfortable with computers. I'm sure one of us will eventually have to-we catch hell daily from family and friends over not being on facebook.
It's probably more laziness than anything.

10. set up a photobucket account. It is a free version available. Do you have a digital camera? |

28. My sympathy...I am the same. Someday someone will come and help. |
|
I learn by watching. I need someone to show me,step by step, how to get the pic's from the camera to DU. I have a wonderful new(ish)shelter kitty who would love to meet all of you. Unfortunately, her mistress is too computer illiterate to do the job. Have camera, have computer, have no savvy. Good luck with your kitty, cats are wonderful.

23. She's 12 and developed a slightly more "laid back" attitude as she's aged.... |
|
Its not that she likes the cat, merely that she's way too important to care.

We lost a cat to the latter in the early 70's. He was an indoor cat but the vet said his mother was probably the carrier.

16. Please don't let him be an outside cat. |
|
Not just for his sake, but for the sake of the birds and other critters. And, be careful with the tuna. Too much fish is not good for kittehs.
Wishing you well on your new adventure. It sounds like it's already turning out to be a great one.

One time my indoor cat got out and he parked himself in the middle of an intersection. Luckily I got him before a car did. He then lived until he was 19 INSIDE.

18. orange and playful! that sounds perfect :D |
|
He sounds like a good little guy! If you decided to make him a housecat he'd probably learn the litter box very easy. I made two ferals into housecats and and they learned to use the box right away.
I've always had cats, haven't had a dog since I lived with my parents, who've always had dogs and cats both. I was moving around too much to care for a dog but now that we're staying put a while we've thought of getting one. I'm so used to the peace and quiet though, I don't know that I can handle a crazy puppy. I should adopt an adult dog from the shelter.. well someday..
:loveya: to lucky little Hank!

21. My JRT and orange kitty are best friends! They're both about the same size and weight |
|
and they love, love, love to play with each other. The orange kitty does a mock "scamper off in fright", and the Jack loves to "chase" him. They they tumble with each other in a mock battle. The cat will then stop and sit up while the JRT capers around him trying to entice him to have another round.
They snuggle up together in front of the wood stove and just really enjoy each other's company.
Its odd that I've almost always had an orange cat in my life. The very same day that our old orange cat passed away, this new one was dumped at the farm. Same day! That's how it's been in my experience so prepare yourself for a lifetime ahead of orangeness - once the karmic powers know you will love an orange cat, they just keep sending them!

Not better or worse, but different. They are not as independent as they seem at first.
