God I HATE Thanksgiving so much.... |
|
So much. I remember once I was working on a housing tract the day before Thanksgiving and the developer, a great guy named Denny, came around in a pickup. Filled with turkeys. he gave them all out to everyone that was working on the job site. My dad, whom i was working for at the time, saw it and asked me where I got it. I told him and he got so pissed that I accepted it he fired me. (my dad, while always a business owner NEVER EVER Gave anyone any kind of bonus.
He tried to shoot me on many occasions on Thanksgiving and once (on Thanksgiving), made the move to "get his gun" against my oldest son (he was about 12 I think)and I pushed him and he fell and sat on a glass fish. Cut his ass pretty good and I of course, had to do the cops thing. handcuffs, jail elder abuse etc.
Te only person I ever met who was more despicable than my Father was his mother and my childhood memories are of her and the Holidays, the only time i would ever see her. (thank God)
This year without going into too many details is the worst one yet.
I HATE thanksgiving.

1. I am sorry to hear this. |

I don't have great relations with my family either. My dad was very restricting and abusive when I was a kid, but I don't feel like going into it.
I hope things get better for you.

I'm a secular humanist/buddhist/atheist and it sucks when I have to go home. I haven't gone back home for the winter break in 4 years.

I mean....wow just wow! Ish those are some sucky Thanksgivings. Not to be annoying but you can like the one tomorrow! Just do whatever you like. Eat whatever you like. Be thankful for all the good things, do what you want and don't let your creepy dad & grandma ruin any more days for you!

5. Well if that were only true |
|
I will hate the one tomorrow too. For reasons i won't elaborate on but my life right now sucks total ass. And the only person I can even talk to is 86 and deaf. And my team (The Forty Niners) won't be on the TV due to the NFL network and I have no money at all so going to a bar to watch is not happening.
Really< I just hope I make it to the new year.

6. Holidays In General Bring No Fond Memories |
|
As a kid I remember far too many arguments and way too much tension. The alcohol seemed to rule the roost. Being an only child all the unhappiness seemed to be pointed at me. As I turned into a teen I started turning that miserable time into a positive one by writing to shut ins. Around this time I also became a shut in for quite some time when I got crippling arthritis. Writing to others on holidays(and of course other times) was my therapy and took me away from some of the hate that surrounded me. To this day I still do something for others on every holiday. These days I make cards for shut ins and hospice. It doesn't make up for all those ruined holidays of my past but it helps focus my here and now. Holidays are often times of sadness when you have lost a spouse or a pet. But being alone is not always a sign of sadness. As many here admit they actually want that day of peace, rest. But don't forget those who are alone and not by choice. Don't forget the shelters (human and animal). They can always use a friendly face or a helping hand.

12. You'll survive because you can talk about it . . . . |
|
It's hard to forgive and forget these childhood memories - some are so horrible.
You do have something to be thankful for - you are not like your dad...
Best to you . . . and hope it gets better..

13. If your father was that abusive to your son I can't imagine why you feel the need to ever see him... |
|

again.
Why would you bother pissing on the asshole, much less spending the day with him? Its your life and you have the ability to choose who you associate with. Tell him, and his twisted mother to fuck off. You're a big man now and in control.
Spend the day with your son so when he's a man he'll have good memories of Thanksgiving.

I hope things in your life get better soon, and that you get through this day OK. I've always thought you were a kindred spirit here and if you ever feel like PMing me, please feel free. I'm going through some tough times myself, but always ready to listen, if that might conceivably be of any help. Ron

I hope it helps to know you're not alone. The holidays are hard times for a lot of people. All the festivity you're supposed to be having just makes it all so much worse.
You strike me as a very kind person, so you've broken the cycle at least.
