The Ruckus Society & Save the Peaks Coalition Take Action!

Sacred Sites are the heart of Indigenous culture. The San Francisco Peaks, outside of Flagstaff, AZ, is sacred to over 22 tribes in the Southwest. The U.S. Forest Service and the Arizona Snowbowl are poised to desecrate this mountain by expanding the existing ski-resort by clear-cutting 74 acres of old-growth pine and using reclaimed sewage water to make fake snow.

The Save the Peaks Coalition has come together to stand up for the human rights of Indigenous people and prevent this from happening. 13 tribes and environmental groups have been in an ongoing legal battle with the U.S. Forest Service and Arizona Snowbowl, and on September 14th, 2006, this trial comes to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. Tribal citizens and supporters from Flagstaff and Reservation Communities plan to caravan to S.F. for days of prayer and action leading up to the court date.
