The Legion each year sponsors 30 or 40 veterans from the VA Hospital in Brockton to their chicken BBQ in August. At the BBQ about 30 years ago when the veterans were from the WWII and some Korea. I realized they had to leave to go back to the hospital before the "door prize," so one of the veterans had asked me what the door prize was and I had to tell him he wouldn't be there.

This year something was mentioned about it and in January the Merry Red Hatters decided to go for a visit to the Brockton Campus. The Red Hatters and friends at the Senior Center started making lap robes, shawls for the common veterans, collecting televisions, playing cards and other gifts including white socks for the diabetics.
