A letter to my Congressman concerning Bush/Libby |
|
This is the letter I just emailed to my Representative... John Lewis (GA - 5th - D)
Dear Representative Lewis,
My name is and I moved into your district October of last year. I am writing to you concerning President George Bush's granting of clemency for Lewis Libby. I believe that President Bush's action is the epitome of cronyism. Is this not a prime example of a conflict of interest? How can any member of the Executive Branch be fearful of consequences for illegal acts if the President will surreptitiously grant them a free pass?
Indeed, during the Nixon hearings Barbara Jordan invoked one of our Founding Fathers concerning such actions: "At this point, I would like to juxtapose a few of the impeachment criteria with some of the actions the President has engaged in. Impeachment criteria: James Madison, from the Virginia ratification convention. 'If the President be connected in any suspicious manner with any person and there be grounds to believe that he will shelter him, he may be impeached.'"
This action by President Bush is one that definitely needs the oversight role of Congress to review, and I implore you to take such action.
Sincerely,
