6. Just got back from three hours at a phone bank in Silver Spring, Maryland.

I'm older and haven't been active for some time, but getting out there for Obama was great!

You get a lot of folks not home (or not answering their machines) and some folks who are real McCain voters, but you get folks who are 100% behind Obama, and in my case, Warner for Virginia's Senate seat.

Those supporters made my day.

I'm pretty burned out by 3 hours on the phone, but I encourage all of you out there to try volunteering.

Here's tip that I got from another volunteer over in SS: when you leave a message, be sure to say that you're a real person and not a robot. It makes the message more personal, because, as you know, after you've read the message into the machine 30 times, it's hard to get the staleness out of your voice.
