I got a phone call from the DSCC the other day. |
|
I got into an argument with the man who was asking for money. He stated that there were 17 vulnerable Republican Senate seats coming up at the next election, and he stated that to get Obama's agenda through we need more Democrats in the Senate. I pointed out that we have a filibuster-proof majority as it is, and that the problem is with the Democrats, not the Republicans, who refuse to enact progressive legislation. He stated that some of them come from conservative states. My point was simple: they are not representing their constituents but the corporate interests that are funding their campaigns. I said that until we get campaign finance reform, I doubt that much progress can be made. I said that I would be happy to donate money when the Democrats grow a spine. Actually the conversation was much longer but this was the gist. What I should have said was that I will be happy to donate to the campaigns of progressive candidates, but I will not give money to the DSCC to distribute as they see fit. Why should I donate money to help elect more DINO Democrats? I am interested to hear what others of you think.:)

1. I think it's a good thing for them to hear. |
|
They were given power to solve problems. If they continue to make excuses, the public will lose patience with them.

6. Yes, it's a good thing for them to hear, but .... |
|
you were talking to some poor minimum wage call center employee. We need to get this word to the decision-making levels. The poor soul who called you probably doesn't have a mechanism to pass along your complaint. His (or her) job is to rake in the dough, as quickly as possible, not to make DSCC policy.

2. For my money, you did exactly the right thing. |
|
The D party needs major housecleaning and that won't happen till we force the issue.

3. I couldn't disagree more strongly. Although conservative Ds can |

be problematic on some issues, they are rock solid on others. Much better a blue dog than a rock-ribbed Republican.
That is why even though my retirement income is meager, I still give to the DSCC and almost never to local candidates without a real challenge.

5. Health care reform is the "New Deal" of our day. |
|
If they don't support meaningful health care reform, they're not really Democrats. Or if they are, then I'm not.

7. I named MAX BAUCUS when they called me. |
|
I told 'em if getting more democrats elected meant having more people like Max Baucus in office, then I wasn't interested in contributing.
