Disappoint to see a pro Prop 16 ad on DU |
|
From what I've read of Prop 16 and it's 'requirement of 2/3rds majority to allow local gov't to get in the utility business' is setup to strengthen utilities monopolies in the state (especially PG&E). Why is DU supporting legislation that at least on the surface supports PG&E's continuing monopoly?

1. DU has no control of ads the first time they appear |
|
We can block them from reappearing, though. So, I'll alert the management.
BTW, if you contribute, you won't see ads at all. It only costs a few dollars.

A utility that has sponsored this piece of legislation to appear on our ballot.
They are the wrong ads for this forum.
If Prop 16 passes, it throws into limbo the many fine utilities run by city governments. Those small utilities have been the first in the state to offer clean energy. They even, in some cases, sell the power they produce back to P G & E, who up to now, has been required to buy it. (Remember that P G & E in Calif. was involved in Enron styled policies that cost this state's citizens over 40 Billion bucks. We might not be in the economic turmoil we are now in if this wasn't the case.)
The wording of the Prop 16 matter is very confusing. The ads make it seem like the cities are at fault, and that the only way we citizens can regain power is by voting for Prop 16.
They run on TV 24/7 and are really convincing. I am hoping that the DU Admins make a decision to not run these ads on what should be an ecologically aware, civic minded, forum.

2. Admins -what about this? |

Where is the moral high ground? Or is it that money matters more than having alternate energy, and citizen control over their utilities?
This ad will remove the ability of cities like Palo Alto Calif. to have efficient and much cleaner energy than what PG & E provides.

3. Prop 16 is really the Pacific Gas and Electric protection act. |
|
It is designed to make it impossible for people to get cheaper electricity from publicly owned utilities.

5. doubt that DU picks the ads |
|
I get to look at Terry Branstad's (former Iowa repug governor) when I come here before I sign in. So my understanding is that DU gets money from the advertiser for every click. So I usually click on it 2 or 3 times. I hate Branstad. And I love the thought of him giving a little bit to DU. It would probably make him throw up if he knew.

8. Since you've been here over 2 years I'm surprised you don't know the ad situation here at DU. |
|
I wish I had a nickel for every, "why is that ad on DU" post that I've seen.
